MILWAUKEE - Watch an advertisement on a video screen in a mall, health club or grocery store and there's a slim — but growing — chance the ad is watching you too.

I use Website Polls for website polls.

Small cameras can now be embedded in the screen or hidden around it, tracking who looks at the screen and for how long. The makers of the tracking systems say the software can determine the viewer's gender, approximate age range and, in some cases, ethnicity — and can change the ads accordingly. And even if the ads don't shift based on which people are watching, the technology's ability to determine the viewers' demographics is golden for advertisers who want to know how effectively they're reaching their target audience .

best picture of 2005 was the daredevil decision by Lionsgate to be the first studio ever to ship DVDs to all 100,000-plus members of the Screen Actors Guild voting for their awards.

Here is a elastic tapes company based in India.

The theory goes that to win best picture at the Oscars , you must win over the industry's actors because they are the largest branch within the academy. Maybe so, but that's an awful lot of waste — 98,700 DVDs shipped to non-academy members just to get the attention of the 1,300 SAG members who do belong the academy, but also get the regular DVD shipped to the full 5,800 AMPAS members separately. Sure, OK, that may not make a lot of sense, but there's another added benefit. Everybody knows that actors are blabbermouths. Win them over, some Oscar consultants think, and they'll help to build great industry buzz. At the 2005 SAG Awards , "Crash" won the ensemble category, which some gurus (not me) think is a prophet foretelling of a big Oscar victory to come. In that case it was true, but I don't buy the theory in general.

Barack Obama plans to sign an executive order ending the ban on federal funds for international groups that perform abortions or provide information on the option, officials told The Associated Press on Friday.

President Bill Clinton ended the ban in 1993, but President George W. Bush re-instituted it in 2001 as one of his first acts in office. The policy bans U.S. taxpayer money, usually in the form of U.S. Agency for International Development funds , from going to international family planning groups that either offer abortions or provide information, counseling or referrals about abortion. It is also known as the "global gag rule," because it prohibits taxpayer funding for groups that lobby to legalize abortion or promote it as a family planning method .

It's a fickle business. They're to be enjoyed if you're invited, and they're to be enjoyed if you're not." Although Google suffered its first-ever decline in quarterly profit because of a $1.1 billion accounting charge, the Internet search leader fared far better than its peers and proved it has the discipline to curb its free-spending ways in tough times. Even as the Google tightened its belt, its fourth-quarter revenue climbed 18 percent to $5.7 billion. "These Jews do," comes the prompt reply, and "Defiance," the new film by Edward Zwick, is determined to prove that point.

Here is a elastic tapes company based in India.

Though one of the standard clichés of the Holocaust is that Europe's Jews were exterminated without offering any resistance, historians have gradually uncovered evidence to the contrary, with the Bielskis being the prime case in point. Along with sibling Asael (Jamie Bell), the brothers not only formed a partisan unit that took on the Germans in the heavily wooded areas of what is now Belarus, they created a community in those woods that managed to keep 1,200 Jews alive until the war ended. Zwick, who wrote the screenplay with Clayton Frohman based on a book by Nechama Tec, has been trying to dramatize that story for at least a dozen years. As it appears on screen, "Defiance" has some genuine strengths but also some weaker elements, and these opposing traits battle it out kind of the way the contentious Bielskis fought not only the Germans but also each other.

Audiences who are now walking past all manner of studio fare and lining up for this film could not be blamed for wondering, “Why aren’t there more movies like this?” It’s complicated, but worth thinking about. Movies are a collaborative exercise that requires a huge capital investment based on known commodities, so to get a movie made it is often more important who is in it than what it’s about. Think about it: if you were a director walking around with a movie that was not only set in Mumbai but also took the city as one of its main characters, how do you think that would play on the studio lot? And by the way, the two lead characters are played by young actors you’ve never heard of. And don’t forget to mention that one-third of the movie is actually in Hindi.

TORONTO - Telecommunications equipment maker Nortel Networks Corp . filed for bankruptcy protection in Canada and the U.S. on Wednesday, becoming the first major technology company to take that step in this global downturn.

Facing a sharp drop in orders from phone companies, Nortel filed for court protection a day before it was due to make a debt payment of $107 million. Protection from its creditors would give the company more opportunities to explore restructuring options or sell off assets. Some help already is coming from the Canadian government. The long-struggling Toronto-based company said in a release that it had been in the process of a turnaround since late 2005, but "the global financial crisis and recession have compounded Nortel's financial challenges and directly impacted its ability to complete this transformation." "Nortel must be put on a sound financial footing once and for all," Nortel's chief executive, Mike Zafirovski, said in the statement.

online service would be available for 69 cents instead of the 99-cent tag Apple had insisted on for years, the change won't necessarily put more money into the pockets of music lovers.

Post entries to multiple blogs here.

While some songs will be 30 cents cheaper, popular songs likely will be marked up to $1.29. That price breaks a psychological $1 barrier and prepares consumers for a new strategy by labels to bundle songs, videos and other exclusive content together — all in the hopes of reversing years of falling music sales . According to NPD analyst Russ Crupnick, the music industry has been faced with a vexing question as fans bought more digital singles but fewer albums: "As the album as we know it goes away, how do we replace a $12 or $13 item with something that costs more than 99 cents?" If the new variable pricing can make several songs packaged together seem like a relative discount, it could finally entice some consumers to pay more.

1. Marriage, '50s style: The movie, which stars Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, dissects a marriage, an examination that leads in two distinct and significant directions. The movie captures the timeless torment of the unhappy marriage, in the way the spouses know each other's weak spots and go for the jugular, and in the way arguments can veer out of control from the simplest of beginnings. At the same time - and this is important - the film is very specific about the marital pressures peculiar to the film's era, the mid-1950s. For the man, it means a life sentence of unrewarding work. For the woman, it's a cell door closing. For both, it's a farewell to dreams.

MySpace restrict photos of nursing babies. The disputes reveal how the sites' community policing techniques sometimes struggle to keep up with the booming number and diversity of their members.

I use Website Polls for website polls.

Facebook began as a site just for college kids , but now it is an online home for 140 million people from all over the world. Among the new faces of Facebook are women like Kelli Roman, 23, who last year posted a photo of herself nursing one of her two children. One day, she logged on to find the photo missing. When she pressed Facebook for an explanation, she got form e-mails in return.

The annual Polar Bear Swim on New Year's Day is a Chico tradition. The unofficial event (it's said no agency will sponsor it for fear of the potential liability) is held each year on Jan. 1 at one second past 1 p.m. By 12:30 p.m. Thursday, dozens of people, bundled up in sweatshirts or jackets, milled about the pavement on either side of Sycamore Pool. And the crowd steadily grew until hundreds of people lined the pool and packed the bridge.

SAN FRANCISCO - The alleged ringleaders of a Chinese counterfeiting gang that sold at least $2 billion worth of bogus Microsoft Corp . software were sentenced Wednesday to prison terms of up to 6 1/2 years, in what is believed to be the harshest penalties yet under China 's tightened piracy laws.

HTC Mobile Blogging

The punishments meted out against the 11 defendants, and announced by Microsoft Corp., could help China improve its image as a country that doesn't crack down hard enough on copyright violators, though the technology and entertainment industries still say China has a long way to go. The sentences ranged from 1 1/2 to 6 1/2 years, according to Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft . The fact that Microsoft, and not the Chinese courts, disclosed the sentences is not unusual. Lawyers are the only source of information in many cases in China because rulings often are not publicly announced. Court officials usually refuse to disclose details to reporters.

Thousands of Microsoft's Zune media players — the software company's answer to Apple Inc.'s iPod — unexpectedly conked out Wednesday and showed users an error message, prompting references to "Y2K for Zunes." The problems appeared when people tried to start up their devices.

Warren did not answer directly when asked whether he would dedicate his prayer to Jesus. In a statement Tuesday to The Associated Press, Warren would say only that, "I'm a Christian pastor so I will pray the only kind of prayer I know how to pray." "Prayers are not to be sermons, speeches, position statements nor political posturing. They are humble, personal appeals to God," Warren wrote. His spokesman would not elaborate. Evangelicals generally expect their clergymen to use Jesus' name whenever and wherever they lead prayer. Many conservative Christians say cultural sensitivity goes way too far if it requires religious leaders to hide their beliefs.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Viacom and Time Warner Cable reached an agreement in principle on Thursday that avoided a blackout that would have prevented more than 13 million U.S. subscribers from seeing popular TV shows like "Dora the Explorer" and "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart." The two sides said in a statement they expected to finalize details of the agreement over the next several days. Viacom wanted Time Warner Cable to pay an extra $35 million to $40 million a year for carrying its cable channels, including MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon. Time Warner had refused, saying the economic climate made it impossible to pass along such costs to its customers. Viacom had originally denied Time Warner's request for an extension of the previous terms to allow talks to continue and had threatened to pull its TV networks from Time Warner unless a deal was reached.

GREEN BANK, W.Va. - Of all the threats to scientific research Wesley Sizemore has stymied over the years, satellites and cell phone towers don't stick in his memory quite like the possessive old hound and its treasured heating pad .

Sizemore is an interference hunter, vigilantly pursuing stray electromagnetic signals that bedevil researchers at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory , which sits on 13,000 square miles tucked away in the nation's only radio-free quiet zone. Though buffered by ridgetops in a West Virginia mountain valley, 50 miles from the nearest town of any size, the Green Bank observatory is under an audio assault unlike any it's faced in the 50 years since Congress created the quiet zone. Wireless computers and other gadgets are cluttering the same frequencies occupied by signals from neutron stars .

"Christmas is over, but Viacom is still playing Scrooge, threatening to pull its MTV Networks off of Time Warner Cable at midnight tonight unless we ask our customers to pay exorbitant price increases," Time Warner Cable Chief Executive Glenn Britt said today in a statement. Viacom has demanded that Time Warner Cable pay an extra 12% to carry its package of 19 channels including MTV, VH-1, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, Spike and TV Land.
