Mumbai: The rising rebel and revolt within mainstream political parties in Maharashtra occupied centre stage in all Marathi dailies in the past fortnight. O scar-winning director Roman Polanski’s surprise arrest Sunday night in Zurich on a 31-year-old charge of having sex with an underage girl has ignited fury among his supporters and furious speculation among others.

That authorities in Switzerland - where Polanski, a Polish-born French citizen, has a home and has visited often without incident - would arrest anyone for extradition is shocking. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office insisted through spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons that the timing was simply the result of knowing Polanski was planning to show up to receive a lifetime achievement award at the Zurich Film Festival. But few people seem to be buying that explanation.

I really, really want to see what Google has planned for us with its Chrome operating system . Intel and the Linux Foundation aren't waiting around to see what they'll do. Today, September 23rd, they and their partners, such as Dell and Canonical, gave us a peek at Moblin 2.1.

Post to multiple blogs here.

Moblin 2.1 stands midway between a desktop operating system and a mobile device OS. All that really happened today is that Intel and friends gave us a look at Moblin 2.1 running on mobile devices. From that, I can see a few highlights. First, as presented today, it appears that they intend for it to contend more with Apple's iPod Touch, Microsoft's Zune HD, and the Google Android-powered Archos 5 , than Windows 7 or the desktop Linuxes like Fedora and openSUSE.

Beyond the Code or, how to win friends, influence people and make a living by writing open source software. It's not just about the code.

Search Engine Optimization Nashik

Linus Torvalds has admitted that the Linux kernel is bloated. It's not a particularly startling admission, because it's obviously true, but also because Torvalds has never been one to use marketing speak. What it doesn't mean is that Linux is bad, or that you shouldn't use it. It works, and that's better than the alternative. One of the hardest lessons I've learned over the years is "Best is the enemy of good". Like many others, I always look for the perfect solution to a problem, and would quite happily spend ages thinking of answers to every single question, rather than getting on with coding something people can actually use. While trying to create the perfect system is an admirable goal, if it means delivering the code late or not at all, it makes the whole effort pointless.

When the Congress did not heed the demand, at least 12 staunch Dera supporters jumped in the electoral fray as independents.

When the 76-year-old Academy Award-winning director of films such as "Chinatown," "Rosemary's Baby" and "The Pianist" arrived at the Zurich, Switzerland, airport Saturday night for a well-publicized appearance, Swiss officials armed with a U.S. arrest warrant took him into custody. , but you have to dig around the fine print to find out. HP has also offered SLED (SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop) on some low-end business PCs like the HP Compaq dc5850 from time to time, but that appears to no longer be the case. Now, HP is — kind of, sort of — offering support for several of the more important community Linux distributions.

Manage multiple blog entries here.

I'm conflicted about this site. On the one hand, it's nice to see any business recognize that companies with more Linux expertise than IT dollars often choose to use a community Linux for their servers. On the other, I wish HP would just start making it easier to buy Linux on both its servers and desktops and provide Linux with real support rather than this half-hearted, minimal-budget effort. The Linux bums are back to blaming others for their problems. While some are demanding more, more, more, at least one guy says HP is in cahoots with Microsoft. The bums should realize that making a half-assed operating system available for free doesn't entitle them to anything from the world. (In fact, when the OS is free for download, the vendor has a hard time differentiating his offering from others' offerings. If, God forbid, he adds a few proprietary programs for this purpose, the Linux bums will be quick to castigate him.) Why don't some of the complaining bums set up shop and sell Linux machines? We hear complaints that Linux is not marketed and advertised enough. So, you advertise it and market it to your hearts' content. We hear complaints that mainstream "distros" are not used. So you use a good "distro". We hear gripes about bad support. So you provide good support. We hear all kinds of conspiracy theories about how somebody is in bed with MS. So you don't even sell any Windows PCs so there is no possibility of 'coercion' from MS. If Linux desktop is really as good as you bums claim, you will become very rich very fast.

The idea -- an action movie set in a world where humans leave living to Sims-like robots -- is promising, but sense gets shoved aside in the pointless rush-rush.

Trying to lure the self-hypnotized gamer nation out into the world to see a dystopian popcorn flick that paints Sims-style living as the end of civilization might seem like a fool's errand. And yet here comes "Surrogates," a slick sci-fi number that presents a future in which flawless, hot-bodied, chicly dressed synthetic humans do the everyday living/working/playing, their every action neurally controlled by their real-human counterparts, a risk-averse population of shut-ins who've gone to seed. An interesting idea, but unfortunately, the film's narrative and emotional engine operate as mechanically as the titular, dead-eyed glamazoids. "Surrogates" stars Bruce Willis as Tom, who in the light of day is a nattily dressed, expressionless robot cop (with hair!) partnered with a model-licious fellow "surrie" (Radha Mitchell) but whose homebound version is a stubbly, heartbroken man unable to connect to his surrogate-addicted wife (Rosamund Pike) or get over the death of their son some years earlier. Human Tom must face the world, though, when his surrogate is destroyed chasing down a man responsible for a criminal rarity: actual human murders.

I wasn't planning on DVR-ing Ken Burns' new six-part PBS series "The National Parks: America's Best Idea," which debuts Sunday night because: 1) I don't have 18 hours of room left on my TiVo; 2) judging from the title, I kinda already know where Burns comes down on the idea of national parks; and 3) I didn't give for KCET's last pledge drive and watching all that beautiful scenery will just make me feel more guilty.

See information about elastic tape and related products.

In other words, the entire origin of the national park system, whose most passionate backer was a Republican, Teddy Roosevelt, is based on a firm belief in -- Glenn Beck, cover your ears, please -- government intervention to regulate an out-of-control free-enterprise system. In fact, one of the more dramatic moments in Burns' documentary involves the battle to create a park in the Great Smoky Mountains, while logging companies bankrolled anti-park ads and were "frantically cutting the old-growth forests to extract everything they could before the land was closed to them." In some ways, Burns' new series sounds like almost as radical a critique of free market excess as Michael Moore's new "Capitalism: A Love Story." Of course, it's unlikely to cause as much of an uproar as "Capitalism" because Moore is a natural magnet for controversy while Burns' films, with their lilting music and cozy slo-mo zooms, can make the most incendiary historical events appear almost as soothing as a glass of warm milk. However, Poniewozik has uncovered the razor blade inside Burns' cinematic pillow. To hear him tell it, Burns' portrait of the creation of our national parks should give conservatives pause in their rush to pillory government at every turn. As Poniewozik writes: "The national parks -- and 'The National Parks' -- are based on ideas that are classically, if not radically, communitarian: That the free market doesn't always act in the public interest. That it's good that every American shares ownership of and responsibility for the most exclusive properties in the country. And that it's right for people -- through government -- to protect them from business interests and even the people themselves." For this, I'd say bravo for Ken Burns, whose portrait of American ideals couldn't have come at a better time than right now.

There was a time when, if you wanted to be sure a Linux distribution to work on any PC, you almost had to include some proprietary firmware for graphic and Wi-Fi drivers. Those days are long gone. Hardware component manufacturers tend now to either include open Linux drivers or open up their specifications enough that Linux developers can created their own drivers. Today, the most common reason to include proprietary software is to provide video and audio support. The most popular video and audio codecs, such as Adobe Flash, Microsoft WMV (Windows Media Video) and MP3, are proprietary. There's a folk tale that goes something like this.  A dog and a rattlesnake meet at the river. The snake says to the dog, "Why don't you carry me on your back to the other side?" The dog says, "Sure, I'd be happy to do that except you'll bite me." And the snake says, "No I won't. I really need to get across to the other side, and I won't bite you." The dog, a foolish sort, believes the snake's promise so he lets the snake on his back and he starts to swim across the river. At the mid-way point, the snake bites him.  "What did you do that for?" exclaimed the dog, as they both begin to die. "What did you expect," replied the snake, "I'm a rattlesnake." And, Microsoft is Microsoft. The Codex Foundation claims that it "will complement existing open source foundations and organizations, providing a forum in which best practices and shared understanding can be established by a broad group of participants, both software companies and open source communities." I don't believe it for a minute. Microsoft doesn't mind stealing from open source, but any deals it makes are only good while there's a clear, short-term benefit to Microsoft. The second that changes, or Ballmer decides to have an anti-open-source fit again, the deal is off.

Nokia this morning reversed its seeming stance on excluding carrier customization from Maemo-based smartphones like the N900. Despite an executive claiming Nokia would at least partly follow the Android and iPhone models of giving less control to carriers over software in the OS, the company now says the argument is "simply incorrect" and that there are "many customization points" for carriers to alter the platform.

Free Website Content Generation

Whether the turnabout is a result of a mistaken interpretation by the original Reuters source or else a rapid change in Nokia's own attitude isn't certain. While Apple's model of refusing to cater to carrier look and feel is regarded as part of why it has so far been successful with the iPhone, analysts warned that many carriers might refuse to carry the N900 without concessions and would hurt its potential sales. The downward trend in smartphone prices spurred partly by Apple and Google has meant that Nokia can less afford to sell its phones at their full, unsubsidized prices. Also, the Finland-based company has rarely had runaway success with individual phone models and has never used expectations of the brand to secure particularly favorable deals with carriers.

Four-and-a-half years of Shiv Sena-BJP rule in 1995-99 did not touch the co-operative structure of the state, which is the basis of the Congress's strength. Not that the saffron combine did not understand the importance of the co-operative structure and the need to do something to grab it; it did not have the expertise or the strength to implement such a move.

See elastic strap manufacturer website.

Jayaprakash Mundada, then minister for cooperatives, prepared a document in 1997 explaining how the Sena-BJP had 'successfully' penetrated the cooperative movement by compelling sugar factories to recruit 'our' people. That document was for the party bigwigs, but it reached the media and landed in the hands of Congress politicians, making them realise the need to fight the ruling combine. The general elections of 1995 had brought the Sena-BJP to power. The political scenario in 1995 was unusual. Riots in 1993, the Gowari deaths during demonstrations in Nagpur in 1994, and the arrogance of politicians and the bureaucracy resulted in the defeat of the Congress.

I think she brought the entertainer side to it more that musically and Ellen will bring her experience as well. I really like Ellen and I think having her on as a “voice of average person” is a good idea. You get alot of technical reviews by Randy and Kara, so it’ll be nice to have someone critique by saying “you know what, I just didn’t care for it” w/out it getting too technical. Linux Foundation to Microsoft: stop secretly attacking Linux Linux Foundation executive director Jim Zemlin issued a scathing condemnation of Microsoft's recent attempts to unload Linux-related patents to patent trolls. He calls for the company to "stop secretly attacking Linux" and compete on the basis of quality rather than FUD.

Linux Foundation executive director Jim Zemlin has a message for Microsoft: he wants the software giant to stop attacking Linux. Zemlin contends that Microsoft is engaged in a covert war against the open source operating system and that the company's hostile behavior is detrimental to the growing number of Microsoft customers who deploy mixed Windows and Linux environments. Zemlin's comments about Microsoft are a response to a patent auction carried out by Microsoft to sell a number of patents that the company allegedly said were related to Linux. The patents, which were originally obtained by Microsoft from SGI, were sold to Allied Security Trust (AST), a patent-holding group that grants its members perpetual licenses before reselling the patents.

The group purchased the patents from Allied Security Trust - a consortium of companies, including Verizon, HP and Cisco, created to buy up patents in a self-defensive move. AST bought these patents from Microsoft in a private auction. OIN CEO Keith Bergelt says Microsoft presented these patents as Linux-related, although Microsoft declined to confirm this. The move is designed to protect against the possibility that the patents could be sold off to patent trolls who would use them against open source companies.

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Could a band that broke up in 1970 really become the best-selling act of the decade? The Beatles might just pull it off, thanks to EMI Music's September 9 release of their remastered catalog. Eminem currently reigns as the best-selling artist of the decade, with sales of 32 million albums in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, followed by the Fab Four with 28.2 million. The Eminem catalog is sure to pick up more sales by year's end, thanks in part to the continued strong performance of his May release "Relapse," which has sold 1.4 million copies.

Beyond the fan excitement generated by the first remastering of the entire Beatles catalog in more than 20 years, sales will also benefit from the massive marketing push behind MTV Networks' video game "The Beatles: Rock Band," which will be released on the same date. Sources say the game is backed by a $20 million-$25 million advertising campaign, which includes the value of advertising on TV networks owned by MTV parent Viacom. That will provide consumers with a timely refresher course on their favorite Beatles songs -- and perhaps prompt many of them to pick up a newly minted remaster. EMI is banking on the legendary band to be a strong seller through the year-end holidays. The label is shipping 4 million copies worldwide on street date, including 1.9 million in the United States. The catalog relaunch will also get its own $1 million-$2 million TV advertising campaign, which will include spots on key cable networks like ESPN, TNT, TBS, TV Land, USA Network and MSNBC. Sources say that the primary spend will be at MTV's fellow Viacom sibling Nickelodeon as part of an effort to turn the network's young, game-playing audience into Beatles fans.

The succession drama in Andhra Pradesh seems to have taken a short break. Soon after the Andhra Pradesh government announced the death of its chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in a helicopter crash last week, the race among contenders for the top job in the state became intense. Members of the ruling party were divided into camps, each projecting its leader as the rightful heir to the seat that fell vacant after Rajasekhara Reddy's sudden death. The shrillest campaign was organised by the deceased leader's son, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy. But once Congress President Sonia Gandhi told the different camps to desist from making a public display of their succession claims, there is now an apparent lull.

A new government has been sworn in with K Rosaiah as the chief minister. Several other members of the Rajasekhara Reddy government have been re-inducted into the new ministry. It is likely that once the mourning period is over, the Congress high command in New Delhi may decide to reopen the succession issue. There is also a distinct possibility that having quelled the initial drama over succession, the Congress leadership in New Delhi may just decide to buy some more time and let the Rosaiah government stabilise the situation for some more months. After all, the next Assembly elections are still five years away. That move might upset Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and his large band of followers in the state, although it is not clear for how long he will remain the favourite candidate to succeed his deceased father. In politics as in life, time is a great leveller and power begets more power. If K Rosaiah manages to stabilise the political situation and beefs up the state administration and governance, he is likely to emerge as an alternative to Y S Jaganmohan Reddy. Note that K Rosaiah’s earlier public pronouncements to the effect that he had no objection to Jaganmohan Reddy becoming the next chief minister were made when it was widely believed that Sonia Gandhi would quickly decide in favour of the son taking over from the deceased father, in tune with the spirit of dynastic politics that prevails in Congress.

Is the RSS itching to play a new role in relation to the BJP? The answer to this question is that the RSS always looks forward to the past. The rupture with the past came during the six years of the BJP-led coalition government in Delhi, when two of its senior swayamsevaks, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani, sought to break free from the Sangh’s suffocating embrace and tried to steer the BJP in a different direction. For the Sangh, nothing ever changes; any idea of change is merely cosmic play, leela, or is part of the illusory nature of the phenomenal world and has little to do with reality. In turn, reality is what the Sangh feels, thinks, knows and decrees. In Nagpur, where the headquarters of the RSS are located, this illusion of permanence and hubris of certainty is protected by the heavily armed policemen of the democratically elected government of the people of India.

What are these tenets of the RSS that will never change? The Sangh believes that politics is based on selfishness and the greater selfishness increases, the greater the need for politics, power and governance. The only way to avoid the path to politics is to have social unity, cultivate the inner excellence of individuals within that society and celebrate culture as the true representation of genuine power. Quarrels, disagreements, love and hate are possible only in a perfectly constituted unity and not as instances of individuality. Democracy is to be rejected because it encourages individualism and selfishness; democracy, Golwalkar famously quipped, was not even a historical necessity. The only ‘ism’ that the RSS finds tenable is Hinduism. In order to achieve this ideal of purity and perfection, the Sangh took a leap of presumptuousness. The first of these was appointing itself the sole guardian, protector and defender of what they called Hindu culture. The second was to assume the mantle of the sole spokesperson for an undiluted and militant idea of nationalism, which, when translated into simple language, meant Hindu nationalism. Thirdly, they took upon themselves, unilaterally and arbitrarily, the task of what they call Hindu consolidation. Finally, the RSS believes that there is something called Hindu society out there, and it is only a matter of time that this Hindu society will be awakened, see the light of day, and run to the paternal embrace of the Sangh.

In some of his first comments on the historic deal , the living-legend Lee, who along with artists such as Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko created most of the characters and settings that still fuel the media powerhouse that is Marvel to this day, told Newsarama Tuesday the merger is a win-win for both sides. “I think it's a terrific deal which will be extremely beneficial to both companies. The synergy between them is perfect,” said Lee, who remains Marvel’s Chairman Emeritus but hasn’t been involved in day-to-day operations for a number of years.
