PUNE: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Monday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Shiv Sena of playing divisive politics in Maharashtra, saying voters had to make a choice between equality and discrimination, communal harmony and terror, and development and deterioration.

“It hurts me that many parties and people in Maharashtra are raking up issues of caste, community and religion. I know by now you are all tired of this politics,” Ms. Gandhi told a rally of several thousand people, a majority of whom were women, here. Earlier, Ms. Gandhi toured Dhule in northern Maharashtra and Jalna in the Marathwada region.
