French First Lady Carla Bruni has expressed her willingness to play a "very real role" in international politics, insisting that she can "take a stand on current affairs".

The 43-year-old former Italian supermodel stakes her claim to be taken seriously in a new French First Lady section on her official website, a move which will be of huge interest to global rivals like the British Premier's wife Samantha Cameron and US First Lady Michelle Obama, 'The Daily Telegraph' said. Bruni has already made a number of political statements, including ones attacking Silvio Berlusconi, the Italian Prime Minister, and the Pope for his teachings on birth control.
