Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Saturday demanded tough and swift action against corruption and joined the debate on black money. He said there was a need to bring back India’s money stashed abroad. “There was two ways to fight corruption— swift action against the corrupt, and opening the door of politics to youths,” he told a news conference here on the final day of his visit to the state. Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, National Youth Congress president Rajeev Satav, MPCC chief Manikrao Thakre and AICC in-charge of state Mohan Prakash were also present. Expressing shock over the murder of Malegaon additional collector Yashwant Sonawane, Rahul said, “Corruption is a serious issue. We have to look at it systemically. We must ensure that such incidents do not recur... Corruption steals money from the poor. Money needs to reach the poor in the form of education, healthcare and infrastructure.” He said corruption was taking place because doors of the political system were closed.
