Union Home Minister P Chidambaram is justified in his indignant retort to the Bharatiya Janata Party's criticism of the government in the immediate aftermath of the Delhi High Court blast.

There is no denying the shoddy handling of national security by the home ministry - with as many as six major terror attacks having taken place since Mr Chidambaram took over the reins of the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2008.

The criticism of Mr Chidambaram's performance is particularly justified given the fact that he has made himself the main authority in matters of national security - with all the intelligence agency chiefs reporting to him - and consciously projected the image of being a tough customer in the battle against terror.
