New Delhi: The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) has given a rating of seven out of 10 for the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government’s performance in the first year of its second term.

The survey, which polled 500 chief executive officers (CEOs), said barring inflation and less than anticipated progress in highway projects, the government has lived up to expectations. Two other areas in which the government has been found wanting are agriculture and fiscal deficit, with 60% of the CEOs polled saying it was unlikely that agriculture’s contribution to gross domestic product would be 4.7% by the end of the 11th Five-Year Plan due to an absence of reforms.
