Irked by Kumaraswamy's allegations that the CM tried to buy his silence, the state government placed advertisements in newspapers asking him to repeat the allegations before Lord Manjunatha in Dharmasthala. When Kumaraswamy accepted the challenge, home minister R Ashok announced the date and time of the scrap — June 27 at 10 am. But why Dharmasthala? Kumaraswamy said that a few months ago he had asked energy minister Shobha Karandlaje to swear before Lord Manjunatha to prove the charges. "I was ready, but she did not come. Probably Yeddyurappa took a cue from his ministerial colleague," he said.

Kumaraswamy said the CM had a habit of swearing before God and seers only to forget them later. "He took an oath that he would not seek a ticket for his son to contest the Shimoga Lok Sabha seat, but managed to get it. BSY went before Nanujundeshwara temple and vowed not to repeat his misdeeds, but he is still at it," he said.
