Politics is a dog-eat-dog world - Economic Times

You can't blame Narendra Modi for inviting Jayalalithaa to attend his fasting event. After all, Modi had taken the trouble of going all the way to Chennai to congratulate the AIADMK chief when she took oath as the Tamil Nadu CM. Even though politics is a dog-eat-dog world, leaders are known to reciprocate personal gestures. So, a little bird says Jayalalithaa was initially inclined to grace the Modi show before a little detail struck her: Tamil Nadu has an estimated 7% Christian and 5% Muslim electorate , making this 12% segment a crucial factor in around 50 assembly seats.

Given that L K Advani's passport to the Lok Sabha is in Gandhinagar and Arun Jaitley's Rajya Sabha berth is from the Gujarat quota, there was no surprise within the BJP camps about these two leaders being present at the Narendra Modi show. To be fair, nobody can nurse a prime ministerial ambition by risking one's route to Parliament. But now, another question doing the rounds in BJP circles is how Modi will feel if Advani insists on launching his forthcoming yatra from Gujarat. Whether LK should stick to his original launch pad or shift it to another state is being debated . Some nosy BJP chaps can't stop talking about why some sworn Modi fans have suddenly lost their zeal in 'marketing' his fast venture as they did with his past projects . Well, there is a nearunanimous view in BJP camps that Modi is known both for his ability to trace who is playing foul and also for his intolerance for dualloyalty characters. That a politician forgetting to carry his bag containing Rs 10 lakh can cause gossip is what Congress MP Sandip Dikshit is finding out. Such things also make people talk about how little Rs 10 lakh matter to some in these days of mega scams and inflation ! Now, some Congressmen wonder why there was no one in Dikshit's First Class AC coupe to remind him of the bag when he walked out at Bhopal railway station. Dikshit , of course, said the money was his friend's who was travelling in a second AC compartment. And the friend said he had given his bag to Dikshit for safe-keeping .
