Replying to questions from reporters in Amethi, where she is campaigning for her brother Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Ms. Priyanka said: "As I am growing older I have realised 'never' is a bad thing to say... I am not going to say 'never'... but I don't think that is what I want to do." Ms. Priyanka said she was only helping her mother and brother Mr. Rahul in electioneering. Mr. Rahul Gandhi is contesting from the Amethi Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh. Asked about her statements, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said in New Delhi that there is nothing wrong if she is seeking a role in the party. "She is part of the Congress family," he said, adding that it was Ms. Priyanka Gandhi's prerogative to join active politics.
