BANGALORE: Samir K Brahmachari, Director General, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), defended his decision to adopt “a careful approach” towards India’s inspiring National Civil Aircraft Development (NCAD) project.

Visit http://metlifeinsuranceproducts.wordpress.com/ for MetLife Insurance Products News and Reviews.
Speaking to Express over the phone from Delhi, Brahmachari denied that he or his team was “deliberately creating turbulence” along the flightpath of the NCAD, as being accused by some of the High-Power Committee (HPC) members. We are dealing with massive government funds, and it has to be dealt through a careful approach. There are lots of work to be done. Only a feasibility study is in place and that was part of the 11th Plan. Now, in the 12th Plan we will initiate the rest. It is not correct to say that we have stopped the project,” Brahmachari said.

No politics, NCAD on right flight path: CSIR - IBNLive.com

The reason? Well, there are several. He's tired. His campaign is almost broke. And he doesn't expect to win Florida. But even more pressing, the former Pennsylvania senator said he wants to sit at his kitchen table on Saturday and finish his income tax returns. It's been a tough few weeks for Santorum. He finished strong in Iowa and eventually was declared the winner there. But he lost big in New Hampshire and South Carolina, and his Florida campaign appears headed in the same direction. He was leaving Florida Friday night, spending Saturday at home and returning to Florida on Sunday. He has pledged to keep his campaign going regardless of the Florida outcome. Such states helped Obama collect enough convention delegates to win the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008. Maine is awarding 24 delegates this year, compared to 12 four years ago.

A political tip sheet for the rest of us - Houston Chronicle

Hillary Clinton wants to step off 'high wire of American politics' - Times of India

WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says she wants to step off the "high wire of American politics" after two decades and is again tamping down speculation that she might stay in government if US President Barack Obama wins a second term.

Visit http://axa-equitable-life-insurance.itpatil.com/ for AXA Equitable Life Insurance Blog, News and Reviews.
Clinton told US State Department employees on Thursday that she is ready for a rest and is paying no attention to the Republican presidential candidate debates. She said she wants to find out just how tired she is after working flat out as first lady, senator, aspiring presidential candidate and finally the top U.S. diplomat. As secretary of state, Clinton is barred from partisan politics and she acknowledged that it is unusual not to be participating in this election season. But, she said she is enjoying being away from the fray and hasn't watched any of the GOP debates.

Hillary Clinton wants to step off 'high wire of American politics' - Times of India

Is 2011-12, 1988-89 all over again? The near farce over Salman Rushdie's non-appearance in Jaipur, whether in person or even in a videolink, would suggest so. Rewind to the late 1980s. A beleaguered Rajiv Gandhi government, its image dented by the Bofors kickback accusations, chooses to ban Rushdie's 'Satanic Verses'. India, in fact, had the 'distinction' of becoming the first country in the world to ban the book, perhaps before anyone in the country had even read it.

Visit http://geicoinsuranceproducts.wordpress.com/ for GEICO Insurance Products News / Reviews.
Worse, on the 24th of February 1989, barely 10 days after the infamous fatwa delivered against Rushdie by Ayatollah Khomeini, 12 people were killed in police firing in Bombay. The police claimed it was forced to open fire when a crowd of around 10,000 Muslims protesting outside the British Consulate began to turn violent. 1989 was also the year of the horrific Bhagalpur riots when more than a 1,000 people were killed. The riots were part of a decade of violence with strong communal and sectarian overtones culminating in the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992. It was also a period when the Congress government at the Centre pussyfooted on a variety of sensitive inter-community issues, from the Shahbano case to opening the locks of the disputed shrine in Ayodhya.

Rajdeep Sardesai's blog: Rushdie row and politics - IBNLive.com (blog)

Politics, faith and maturity - Mid-Day

It is tempting to declare that religion causes more problems than provides solutions. My personal fascination with religion begins and ends with trying to understand why people believe. But like all woolly-headed liberals I also know that people have the right to put their faith in some divine benediction and look for solace where they want. But in the whole Salman Rushdie-Jaipur Literary Festivals, it's difficult to exactly determine where religion ends and where political expediency and official cowardice begin.

Red Wine India
Being human has to allow a balance -- albeit delicate -- between being sensitive to beliefs and challenging existing ideas. It is also necessary to distinguish between prejudice and perceived hurt sentiments. There is little doubt here that the Rajasthan government either capitulated to pressure from a few Muslim groups or manipulated the Muslim dislike of Rushdie to scuttle the writer's visit to the festival. Did Rushdie upset believing Muslims with Satanic Verses? Of course he did. Has he paid the price for that? The answer to that is also yes. He lived in fear of his life under a fatwa for years and even came up with some sort of an apology. But was Rushdie the first to challenge, mock, scorn existing beliefs and will he be the last? An emphatic no is the answer to that.

Wine To India
Like every human -- or divine -- conceit -- or concept -- religion has been questioned and challenged several times and many of those threats have come from within the religion itself. Look at all the schisms in almost all major and minor belief systems. So the idea of blasphemy itself has been used for political gain more than any greater understanding of God. And that is what it seems to be the case here as well.

Wine Society Of India

Politics, faith and maturity - Mid-Day

Modi categorically said, “People only like those who work for their development.” “Politics revolved around the issue of vote bank. It was vote bank which defined development. Everything was connected to the vote bank. Some people did benefit but the majority suffered. The vote bank was consolidated but the country suffered. This attitude of throwing crumbs at the people must be stopped,” he said without mincing his words. Modi emphasized that there was two types of politics – one of divide and rule and the other of everyone together for growth. He goaded the people to choose what they wanted in the long run.

Vote bank politics must be stopped: Modi - Zee News

Its idea seems to be to use her charisma, popularly referred to as the 'Priyanka factor', to make up for its deficiencies in UP - lack of a robust organisation and dedicated grassroots cadre. It appears to think it can perennially depend on the Nehru-Gandhis as its trump card to woo voters. But, if she's truly committed to her party's cause, it must be asked why Priyanka goes into political hibernation between elections.

Visit http://aiginsuranceproducts.wordpress.com/ for AIG Insurance Products News / Review
Can voters be swayed just by parading star campaigners during elections? Celebrities may attract crowds, but whether they actually affect voter preferences is debatable. Today, political parties of all hues need more than star power to influence the electorate. In that sense, pitching Priyanka as the Congress`s star campaigner won't always work. It is an unsustainable campaign model: anyone who adopts it shows she lacks accountabi-lity and long-term commitment to voters and treats politics as a part-time flirtation. Besides, too much faith may be put on the Priyanka factor to boost the party's fortunes. Without organisational strength and dependable caste equations to back up its prospects, brandishing the Nehru-Gandhi card may even become a liability. It's true that Priyanka has an affable and pleasing personality that reminds people of Indira Gandhi. But that's precisely why she ought to take up a more prominent and proactive role within the party. As an inspiration, she need look nowhere else but at her brother Rahul Gandhi. The Gandhi scion has been working hard to galvanise party workers and to strike a chord with the masses across India. Having Priyanka as a full-time politician by his side will be a huge asset.

Politics is a full-time job - Times of India
