Along with paying whatever you want, the Humble Bundle is also a charity drive: you can choose how much of your money is donated to Child’s Play and the Electronic Frontier Foundation; if you like, you can donate 100% of a $50 payment to charity and walk away with five new games — or 100% of a $10 payment; it doesn’t matter. To put this into perspective, and to illustrate just how successful the Humble Bundle initiative has been, the total value of sales from the three Humble Bundles to date (two Indie bundles and one Frozenbyte bundle) is $4 million. The first Indie Bundle raised around $300k for charity, the second around $600k, and judging by the current performance of the third Indie Bundle — which has been available for less than 24 hours, and will be online for another 13 days — it looks like charities and indie developers are in for a treat. Total payments are already creeping up on $500,000! Child’s Play , incidentally, is a charity that provides sick, hospitalized kids with video games and toys to play with — and seemingly the results have been excellent. The EFF is a charity that campaigns for freedom on the internet via a network of lawyers and activists. Both are well worth supporting with your charity dollars — but if you’d rather donate all of your Humble Bundle payment to Child’s Play (or vice versa), that’s OK too.
