The Linux Foundation has announced that the distributions from all the major commercial Linux companies, including Canonical, Mandriva, Novell, Oracle, Red Hat and others, are certified to Linux Standard Base 4.0.

The Linux Standard Base (LSB) was created by the foundation to lower the overall costs to organisations of supporting the Linux platform. Certification reduces the differences between individual distributions and provides interoperability, such that applications are more easily ported between distributions and are more easily supported.

The Foundation is currently working on version 4.1 of the LSB and released a Public Beta for version 4.1 of the Linux Standard Base. The Linux Foundation is seeking feedback on LSB 4.1 and further information on the release is available from the Foundation's web site.
