I've said this same comment about ubuntu since 8.04. When I started using linux, I tried multiple distros and found that the only distro that successfully worked on 99% of the machines I tried was Mandriva. I've been using Mandriva since 2008.0 and I'm completely satisfied. No terminal usage (most if not all options are done with a beautiful GUI) unless you're doing something out of the ordinary. Its the perfect OS for someone that is migrating from Windows. Its exactly what they prefer.. GUI'ified.

Did it ever occur to you that your download might be corrupt. Did you check for the integrity. Did you ever tried and seek help from user forums and fellow Acer Aspire users and tried to troubleshoot as to why you are facing issues whereas others are not.
